FILTER & BACKWASH SYSTEMS RENOVATIONS
The Crescent Hill Plant Filter and Backwash Systems Renovations project included the seismic retrofit and strengthening of the East Filters building, as well as the demolition and landing strengthening of the Chemical Building Tank and the repair and strengthening of an exterior junction box. Consisting of two sections constructed in 1926 and 1955, the East Filters Building was assessed and analyzed for current seismic code and found to be deficient. Exterior and interior load-bearing masonry walls were strengthened using a variety of techniques, including helical wall ties and a Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) and anchoring system. For the Chemical Building Tank, Cornerstone was able to strengthen beams and add a structural steel landing support. For the exterior junction box, Cornerstone repaired and strengthened beams using Carbon FRP.
